Happy Sunday! So sorry I haven't been posting regularly, I've been busy since being sick. Thursday and Friday I went to work and was very busy catching up on projects. Friday afternoon I left with my boyfriend for Cariff, Wales for the weekend!
My boyfriend and I took a bus and arrived late Friday night to our hostel. We got plenty of sleep and woke up to a generous array of food provided for breakfast. I enjoyed a croissant and apple juice. After breakfast, my boyfriend and I headed to Cardiff Castle. We spent the morning touring the castle, the grounds, and learning about the history of Wales. We went to Bella Italiana for lunch and had calzones.
After lunch we went to the love spoon maker and William bought me a love spoon! In Welsh tradition, someone gives a loved one a love spoon to signify their affections. Centuries ago, the peasantry used love spoons as engagement presents, as they could not afford rings. While this wasn't exactly a proposal, it was a romantic gesture. He let me pick any love spoon I chose, so I chose a dark wooden spoon with a lock on the top of the handle. I liked the lock because a few weeks ago, Will and I put a lock on love lock bridge to signify a safe and permanent love. I know that's quite sappy, but it was fun to do.
We spent some time seeing the arcades until I found the John Lewis. John Lewis is an upmarket department store that sells men and women's clothes and accessories, home furnishings, and cosmetics. I was wondering around talking about how I didn't feel compelled to buy things every time I went shopping, but then I found the display of fascinators. I tried on quite a few before I decided on a nude coloured feathered fascinator. I chose it because the colour will go with many pieces, it's not extremely formal, but it makes a statement.
William and I spent the rest of the evening at an art museum. We enjoyed looking at Welsh ceramics and the history of Welsh pottery.
After a long day of walking, we went to the hostel and rested a bit before dinner. For dinner we ate at Revolution Kitchen. Will had a burger and I had fish & chips, which were quite good. We shared a chocolate brownie sundae for dessert! Yum!
Today we took a walk to Cardiff Bay. It was very windy, but aside from a short rain shower, the weather was gorgeous. We toured a war ship that is currently at the dock and talked to member of the Royal Navy about what they do, the ship and such. For lunch we ate at a restaurant called Top Gun where we both had their award winning fish & chips. I didn't mind doubling up on the fish and chips because I never eat them in London. For dessert we went to an ice cream parlor and shared a Hot Chocolate Muffin Sundae. It was a chocolate muffin cut in half with two scoops of vanilla ice cream on top with chocolate syrup on top. After lunch we toured the Pier House and the Senedd, where the Welsh Assembly meets and makes laws. We spent lots of time asking about the Welsh government, how it works in tandem with Welsh MPs in Westminster, and the history of the Welsh government. After a lovely day at the bay, we headed home to London and arrived after dark. As much as I loved touring Wales, I am happy to be back in London, as it feels like home.
