Brugge

Greetings Fashionators!

Happy Sunday! Hope everyone is enjoying the last bit of their weekend!

Today my boyfriend and I took a day trip to Bruges (pronounced Broozh), which is a city in northwestern Belgium, just off the coast. We walked about a mile and a half to the train station, but struggled to get our tickets. The automated machines declined our cards, so we waited in line to purchase a ticket from the counter. The train ride only took an hour, and we were in Bruges!

When we arrived I was a bit nervous, as neither of us knew anything about the city. A friend of mine recommended I go, but I never took the time to actually research what there was to do in Bruges. As we walked towards the city center, I realized that English was not going to be as common in Bruges as in Brussels. The most common language was Flemish, and many signs had French as the second language. Because I know neither of these languages, I had an exciting day!

We arrived around noon with empty stomachs and immediately began our search for food. We couldn't read the menus, and since I don't eat most meats, I was scared to order anything. We found a cute little lunch place called "Pasta Maria", where a baker had an assortment of pastries and dishes in the window. I pointed to a savory foccaccia pastry with mozzarella and tomato in it, as I could see there was no meat. After a bite to eat, I was ready to conquer Bruges!

I spent much of my time photographing the area, especially the historic buildings. The architecture was gorgeous and the brightly coloured doors photographed beautifully against the neutral colored walls. I am so excited to edit and post my photos once I return to London!

We saw the Bruges Museum, which allowed us to tour town hall and the court room. We walked through a large, old church and wandered through the few open shops. Unfortunately, many shops were closed because it was Sunday.

Bruges was very small, so making it a day trip was a wise choice. We left Bruges in the early evening to return the Brussels for dinner. Many places are closed very early, as it is Sunday, so we have been enjoying an evening in watching movies and relaxing after a long few days of travel.

I look forward to my last day in Brussels tomorrow, and plan on seeing the pissing boy statue and eating at least one more waffle! As much as I absolutely love my job at Upper Street, it's nice to know I get to sleep in tomorrow and skip the heels for more practical walking shoes. Despite being on holiday, work beckons. My boyfriend thinks I have a "shoe problem," but I'm just really dedicated to my work (hehe). I guess I'll have to stop by the Ferragamo shop on Waterloo tomorrow- it's important research for work! I'll let you know how my "research" goes tomorrow!
