Hope everyone is having a dapper weekend! As always, it seems to be flying past!
I apologize for not posting yesterday. I intended to post, but yesterday was such a disaster, I simply couldn't. My day started by sleeping through the first few alarms on my phone, but I recovered by scarfing down half of a breakfast while doing my makeup. I grabbed my bag and camera and headed out the door to journey to work.
Because I had to rush out the door, I didn't check the weather (which, of course, was rain). Instead of wearing my galoshes and rain coat, I ran out the door in Cole Haan shades, my toggle coat, and suede ankle boots. I, of course, looked like an idiot strolling out of my flat in oversized sunglasses into grey, rainy weather.
To finish off my morning, I ate sidewalk walking out of my apartment. I slipped in a puddle of water and landed on my hands and knees into the concrete. I work for a company that makes gorgeous courts and I can't even walk in my flats. No one seemed to notice or care, so I got up and walked onward with what little dignity I could muster. Luckily my tights hid the blood and bruises, my sunglasses hid my shame, and my hands weren't too badly scratched up.
When I got to work, I finished up a few projects and photographed shoes. I can't say enough how much I love working for Upper Street- all the women in the office are lovely, the shoes are gorgeous, and I love working with the photographs of the shoes. Everything at work was fine, I was just tired after a day of work.
This week was just particularly long. I can't decide if it's because I burnt dinner two nights in a row, because I hardly slept, or because I had an overwhelming amount of papers, projects, and reading for my classes.
Anyhow, after work, I ate loads of Indian food and did absolutely nothing and it was wonderful.
I journeyed to Oxford for a day trip today! It was a quaint town occupied mostly my college students and faculty. The roads were cobblestone and lined with book shops, pubs, and the sort. Certainly a college town.
In the morning I toured Oxford University, which is made up of 32 individual colleges. Afterwards I got lunch at the White Horse pub with my darling boyfriend! We had fish & chips with peas! It was divine! Much better than tourist-trap fish and chips in London. My boyfriend ordered us dessert, which changed my life. We had sticky toffee pudding, and it was so delicious! This pudding wasn't a custard consistency like in America. It was a small, moist cake that was served warm with a sweet syrup and powdered sugar.
After lunch we explored the town and went into a few shops. I found a Debenhams with a MAC Cosmetics counter and was delighted to see that it was not nearly as crowded as the ones in London! I have been having trouble with my foundation since coming to London, which has escalated in the past few weeks. In America, I maintain a slight tan even ing the winter because I am outdoors often. In London, there is no sunshine and I find myself indoors more often. My skin has become more pale, but my foundation has not. This is an enormous fashion faux pas. I went to MAC to find that the prices were also notably less than in London! Splendid! Only £21.50 for some powder! A lovely makeup artist showed me some options, and I went home with a compact of Studio Fix in NC25. I also learned that I will never complain about prices of makeup in America, as I just paid $35 for a compact that is $27 at home.
I was also taking photos throughout the entire trip! Here are a few:
The buildings were such nice colours!
This is a meadow at Oxford that is currently flooded! I thought it was a pond!
Christ Church at Oxford
Merton College at Oxford
The cobblestone street where I nearly broke my ankle. I felt like I was walking on apples!
More Oxford University- which had lovely lawns and shrubberies.
I ran into the street to take these photos- I couldn't help myself! Safety first!
This cylinder-shaped building is called the "camera" which comes from the Latin word for chamber
Vines grew on the buildings, which was so picturesque!
Have a cheery end to your weekend, everyone!
