You may have noticed that my blog suddenly fell off the face of the earth (well, the internet) last week suddenly and without warning. When I started this blog, I was determined to never let that happen, but alas, cruel fate has cursed me! Well, the curse of technology is more accurate. My flat lost WiFi Wednesday night and did not return for a few days.
There was nothing I could do to fix it or post, so I went a bit MIA during a few of the most crucial days in the fashion world: New York Fashion Week and the first few days of London Fashion Week. To make everything even better, I caught the plague and missed the first day of fashion week! Well, a 48 hour virus, but it felt like the plague. Needless to say, I am very behind on reviewing everything at NY Fashion Week and what has happened so far at London Fashion Week.
Instead of cramming it all into this post (which I can't do since I still haven't really watched many of the shows from NYFW), I'll hit a few of the highlights of my time without internet and with the plague!
Wednesday: I was feeling well and left my flat assuming it would have WiFi when I arrived! I had lunch at Palace of Westminster with my boyfriend who interns there. The security guards didn't believe me when I said I was there to grab lunch with my boyfriend (can't decide if it was the American accent or my bright pink lipstick). Lunch was great! I toured the Palace and then went to Tate Modern, which I had a difficult time appreciating, if I can be entirely honest. I understand that the art is in imagining it, not always technique, but I'm a stickler for technique. Afterwards I took myself shopping (surprise) and bought a French Connection jersey top, a dress, some grey tights and a necklace. Returned to my flat with no WiFi and felt like I was in the Dark Ages. Just kidding, I read Vogue.
Thursday: Went to work, talked about Valentines day, started feeling unwell on the train ride home.
Friday: Woke up with black spots on my face and feeling like my body was turning against me- I'd caught the plague. Okay, maybe that's a bit dramatic. I did, however, ache all over, my head burned with fever, and my temples were throbbing. I realized I was going to miss fashion week and sobbed uncontrollably in bed (this part I'm not even exaggerating- my boyfriend was more worried about my crying spell than me fever). I stayed in bed all day and felt like I had the flu (which, thankfully, I did not). Oh, it was also Valentine's Day. My boyfriend brought me soup, bread, water, and medicine. And Belgian chocolates, which are divine. I'm struggling to make myself ration them.
Saturday: Woke up feeling better than I did Friday, but not completely well. The WiFi returned, I read BuzzFeed and slept on and off through the day. Although I hate being in bed all day, I knew I wouldn't get any better if I tried to conquer the world. More soup and bread and two chocolates after dinner.
Sunday (today): I feel so much better! Everything is fine (truly a 48 hour virus), except I can't stop sneezing. Sadly, I think the sneezing is a result of the flowers my boyfriend bought me today. Instead of paying an arm and a leg for roses on Valentines, he told me to pick out some flowers whenever I wanted, which I actually prefer. I picked white and yellow chrysanthemums, which have brightened up my kitchen nicely. It was very sunny today and my boyfriend insisted I go get lunch with him, as I hadn't been out of the flat in over 48 hours. I had a salmon and soft cheese sandwich on oatmeal bread... yummy! We went grocery shopping and ran errands. The rest of the day I worked and did plenty of reading, as is my typical Sunday.
There you have it! My somewhat uneventful ending to my week. Embrace the new week tomorrow and prepare yourself for an honest evaluation of what the industry just put on the runway!
